Englich Biography
I
am Didy Mackel, bass guitar.
I was born in Hamburg on June 7 th, 1961. When I was ten I drew guitars of all
different
shapes at school and made them out of wood.
In those days I had a small cassette recorder and listened to music by Sweet,
Slade, Gary Glitter, T - Rex
and others and played the backing track to them.
When I was 11 I started guitar lessons. My brother Karlheinz Mackel used to tell
me about his
days as a musician from 1963 - 69.
( He played the guitar in Hamburg with the Flowers in the Haus der Jugend, a few
clubs, and in the
old
Star Club ). It was through him that I discovered the Beatles. From listening to
records I became
a Paul Mc Cartney fan. I picked up an old bass guitar cheap. I became a bass
player.
At 15 together with Frank Nottelmann ( Mania ) I took my first tentative
steps in the music world.
We played, we practised with other players, we started up bands and so on.....
In 1982, with the help of Thies Bendixen, Frank Nottelmann and I joined the band
Mania.
We did demos, and gigs in the Haus der Jugend
and some clubs. Later we went on tour.
We were the support band for Faith No More, Doro. U.D.O., Running Wild,
Helloween, and Sinner. We brought out 2 LPs, a single, a sampler. a CD , and a
video clip that was broadcast
on
RTL
- Mosh and Tele 5 - Hard & Heavy.
In 1990 the dream came to an end, the band split up !!
In March 1995 I played a few gigs with Not Fragile and stayed with the band.
In April 1995 I joined the band JUMP as well
( Van Halen Tribute ).
